The Campaign On Digital Ethics (CODE) is a South African non-profit, civil society organisation dedicated to advocating for digital rights, promoting tech accountability, and countering disinformation in the evolving landscape of digital technology.

MISSION & OBJECTIVES

Mission

At CODE, our mission is to advocate for digital rights and ethics, enhance tech accountability, and counter disinformation. We strive to empower individuals and communities, enabling them to take control of their digital lives. We are committed to ensuring that technology aligns with constitutional values, human rights, and democratic principles. We pursue our mission through advocacy, public education, and policy interventions, collaborating with civil society organisations, policymakers, and technology companies.

Objectives
  • To enhance tech accountability and transparency, by advocating for regulatory frameworks in the digital sector. 

  • To promote the use of ethical guidelines, founded in human rights principles, in the development and deployment of artificial intelligence and algorithms. 

  • To counter disinformation and promote responsible use of digital platforms, by raising awareness, promoting digital literacy, and supporting fact-checking and other measures.
